Up and running on WordPress 2.7!11 Dec

I wrote a little bit ago on how amazing the new WordPress is, albeit at the time it was still in beta, still it proved itself for me. Well today it is official, and WordPress 2.7 has been released as a final. I took the opportunity to perform the upgrade and everything worked beautifully! For those that are interested, here are the steps I took to get things working right:

  • First backup all of your files, and your database
  • Make sure to backup your current theme, upload, and plugins directory
  • Delete all files from the existing 2.x directory
  • Download WordPress 2.7
  • Configure config.php and upload to the new server along with all WordPress 2.7 files downloaded from the package
  • Copy your theme, upload, and plugin files back to the server in their respective locations
  • Navigate to the update page with the following URL: http://your-website.com/wp-admin/update.php

Once you do this, your website will be up and running and you should have direct access to it with the same login.

So far I am enjoying the new interface. It is deffinitly a step in the right direction and I am glad they have chosen to shorten the gap between a strict blogging interface to that of a CMS interface.

Yes, I am now on Facebook09 Dec

After much hesitation, I finally decided to jump on the bandwagon and join Facebook. I guess it was long past due, but I took pride in knowing that I may have been one of the last few who remained unattached to FB for so long. Its like the person who never in their life, received a speeding ticket (my mother), or worse yet, the person who never smoked a cigarette. It’s as if I took pride in knowing I was holding out, not the actual act of having an account. Ohh what a rush!

So after much hesitation, I am officially official with my Facebook. Not a whole lot of activity, but a great way to connect with people, that’s for sure!

If you are on there, look me up!

WordPress 2.7 Beta 2 Released10 Nov

I got a chance to sit down and play with the new WordPress 2.7 Beta 2 that has been released. I have to tell you, this is going to be a fairly major overhaul for the existing suite of tools. I am impressed with the tool set being redone, and placed on the left of the screen. I really like how the sections within that toolbar are easy and manageable, without there being a separation between “writing” something and “Managing” it such as posts or pages. Having the layout on the administration side like that is about the best thing since sliced bread! I don’t have many details of what has been changing behind the scenes however, I did want to post up a few screen shots of this new beast. Read More…

The Election 2008!05 Nov

I really hope that everyone had a chance to sit down and watch the election last night. Amy and I had dinner with some friends, and then embarked on our journey downtown until we reached El Rio for our first stop. There we were able to see Obama’s speach which was absolutely incredible! The energy in the room was insane and so many people were cheering, chanting, and praising this victory! I think this is the first election in my history that I can recall this much energy!

Being in California, the whole state was buzzing over this. It was a clear sweep and the networks were already declaring Obama the 44th President as of 8:30 PM PST. After seeing the speech and having a few drinks, we decided to head out to the Castro and see what was left of the party. Unfortunitly, there wasn’t much going on with the music, etc., and the place was beginning to shut down. There was however, a TON of people in the streets partying regardless of whether the event was done or not! It was very exciting. We ended up wrapping the night at a friends house but reflecting on how amazing all of this really is. I have hope that we will see change, but remember that this does NOT start at the government’s level, but instead at our level on the streets. We need to make the change happen and can’t rely on just the government. It all starts with us!
